Evaluation Rules

Every rep: full pre-shot routine, one ball, no do-overs. Backing off is allowed, so train it. Play with a partner if you can; the pressure is the point.

1. Short putts: 1-Putt Circle

Setup: Five tees in a circle 4 ft from the hole (putter length plus about 14 in). Pick a hole with at most 1° of slope so every putt plays inside the edge of the cup. Cover uphill, downhill, left-to-right and right-to-left.

Play: Go around the circle twice for 10 putts. Mark your start tee so you know when a lap is done. Score: 1 point per make. Max 10.

2. Lag putts: 2-Putt Circle

Setup: Use the same five tees for direction. First putt from about 15 ft.

Play: Move around the clock and step back one extra pace on every putt, finishing around 45 to 50 ft. Score: 1 point if it finishes inside the 4-ft circle, 2 if holed. The goal is distance control, not the read: eliminate the 3-putt.

3. Chipping: 3-Shot Circle

Setup: Standard chips from just off the green, within 25 paces of the hole. No flops, no long bump-and-runs. Vary lies.

Play: 10 chips, holing out every one. Score: chip-in 2, down in 2 is 1, down in 3 is ½, down in 4 or more is 0. It rewards getting down, not hitting it close: a 3-foot chip you 3-putt scores nothing.

4. Wedges: 3-Shot Scoring Zone

Setup: Launch monitor or known yardages. Targets: 50, 75 and 100 yds.

Play: Rotate 50, 75, 100 three times (9 shots). Shot 10: your partner calls a random number from 50 to 100.

Score: 1 point if the carry is within 5%: 50 yds = 47–53, 75 = 71–79, 100 = 95–105. For 14+ handicap training, use a 10% window, but the combine standard stays 5%.

5. Driver: Go-To Club

Setup: Pick two markers (flags or trees) for a fairway 10% of your total distance, 5% each side. 300 yds is a 30-yd fairway; 250 yds is a 25-yd fairway. No launch monitor: eyeball it like the course.

Play: 10 full-speed drives, picking a precise target every time. Score: 1 point per ball finishing inside the corridor. Train hard, play easy: the tour average is about 70 yds wide.
